The blade is thicker and more stable and the locking mechanism is more secure.The assisted opening works great for me. This is not a switchblade. You do have to squeeze a little to get the blade moving, but once it starts it fully opens and locks into place 100% of the time. On the other hand, the shape of the knife handle is very uncomfortable to me. The handle narrows considerably towards the end, making it hard to grip.
